The Captain A. V. Nickels Inn
This historic inn sits on three ocean-side acres rambling down to the Penobscot Bay. Beautiful gardens, a fountain, and walkways to shoreline seating in classic Adirondack chairs, as well as a summer cottage with a deck and fire pit provide settings for quiet moments of reflection. Croquet, badminton, bocce ball and horseshoes can be enjoyed on the expansive lawns. Guest areas include two sitting rooms, a library with roaring fires on cool evenings, dining rooms, a beautiful conservatory and loggia with views to the sea, a lounge for evening wine and cheese, and expansive decks with fire pits. After having slept in individually designed rooms or suites furnished with antiques and sumptuous beds, guests awake to views of the sunrise across the bay and the smells of a three-course gourmet breakfast being prepared. The murmur of waves from the bay and wonderful sea air enhance the restful atmosphere. All rooms have private baths, flat screen TVs, wireless internet capabilities, Keurig coffee makers, and some have electric fireplaces.
The Captain AV Nickels Inn features six guest rooms and two suite – each with modern amenties and private facilities. Each room features themed décor and is named after a port of call that might have been visited by Captain Nickels or the current Innkeepers during their extensive travels. All rooms include a gourmet breakfast each morning, flat screen cable TVs, Keurig coffee/tea service, free wifi, iPod connectible radios, private bath or showers, premium Egyptian cotton bedding, and access to the first-floor library and lounges. Suites include a sitting room with electric fireplace, kitchen or kitchenette, and decks overlooking the bay with a fire pits.
The FarmHouse annex just down the road features one four-bedroom apartment on two floors, and two one-bedroom apartments with separate entrances. All three feature modern amenities, fully furnished kitchens, linens, and private off-street parking. The four-bedroom house features washer and dryer, an elegant dining room with fireplace, large living room, deck with grill and hot-tub, sunroom, two baths, and an eat-in kitchen. Check-in is between 3:00pm and 7:00pm (exceptions with prior notice). Check-ins after 7:00pm must call first to make arrangements and rooms may not be guaranteed. Check out time is 11:00am. We accept MasterCard, Visa, Discover, personal checks, and cash. Sorry, we cannot accommodate pets – Maggie (our Scottish Terrier) and Malone (our Westhighland Terrier) are in-residence and opposed to shared attention.
The Inn’s largest suite features a private entrance, spectacular views from the large deck with a firepit, a grill, outdoor dining table, and lounge facilities to enjoy the sea air. It also has an open dining/living room with electric fireplace and flat screen cable TVs, fully furnished kitchen with full sized refrigerator, two bathrooms with spa bath tub or shower, and two bedrooms with queen size beds. It includes linens and kitchen ware. Located on the third floor of the Inn, the Captain’s Suite also includes access to the large copula and widow’s walk (see outside photo’s of the Inn) boasting spectacular views of the Bay and surrounding area, as well as pull-down ship’s-type twin beds in the copula. The suite sleeps 4 to 6. The average rate is $250.00 per night.
Havana is the Inn’s second floor suite with wonderful views of the bay from the extra-large private balcony featuring wicker furniture and a fire pit. From the private entrance, you find yourself in the living room with an electric fireplace, large flat screen cable TV, comfy couch and arm chair. Venture out onto the deck or head back into the huge bedroom. Havana features a king size bed, Jacuzzi tub, walk-in tile shower, wet bar/kitchenette area and fantastic views. For an extra charge, It can be combined with two additional bedrooms with a TV and another bath with a tile shower and antique claw-foot tub. This is our most-requested suite and is an average of $250.00 per night for 2 people.
Our front queen bedroom is named for the British capitol city and features beautiful English antiques. The spacious room includes all of our standard amenities, a private shower and facilities, antique cobalt chandelier and a plush blue Persian carpet over hardwood floors. Average rate: $175.00 per night.
Paris is our largest and most popular queen bedroom. The sun drenched accommodations include elegant burgundy walls and a regal four poster bed which requires a step up. The rich Parisian appointments, private shower and facilities, sea view, and modern amenities will ensure a relaxing stay. Average rate: $185.00 per night.
Drawing on the beautiful courtyard gardens of Charleston, we’ve designed a room that’s whimsical and comfortable. The queen bed and window are framed with yards of silk spilling from window boxes found at a flea market in France with watercolor prints covering the walls (including paintings by our innkeeper Brenda). The room also includes a large bath/shower combination. Average rate: $155.00 per night.
Dublin is a step back in time when the culture of Ireland revolved around horses and racing. This room has a private bath a few steps across the corridor (it is our only room without en suite facilities) and its own leprechaun in residence waiting to bring you luck. Dublin includes a very comfortable antique double bed and rich European appointments. Average rate: $135.00 per night.
Featuring rich textures and colors, Istanbul draws on the culture and exotic beauty of the ancient city of Constantinople. The room includes a brass double bed and extra large bath and dressing room. Average rate: $135.00 per night.
Our version of accommodations in the beautiful Italian seaside resort, Portofino features a fanciful four poster queen bed, large bath facilities with an antique claw-foot cast iron tub, and a stone tiled walk-in shower. If you need more space, Portofino can also be expanded with an extra double bedroom (for an additional charge) and can also be connected to the Havana Suite. Average rate: $175.00 per night.
The Farmhouse Annex is located just down the road from the inn and features excellent weekly and monthly rentals. So, bring the whole family or friends and spend the week in Mid Coast Maine. The four-bedroom main house features a modern farm kitchen as well as a wood cook stove, spacious rooms including a full living room and dining room, gas fireplaces, modern bathrooms, slate and heart of pine floors, a sunroom with daybed, and a deck with grill, hot tub, and outdoor seating. Rents from $250.00 per night with a five night minimum. There are also two, one-bedroom apartments featuring private entrances, living rooms, modern baths, new kitchens, queen size bedrooms outside patios, and free parking.
